++Abstract+++ Within the last few years the research area of SocialTV has been gaining more and more attraction in academia as well as in industry. Related work helps us to understand the important aspects of designing and evaluating new value adding social services related to a TV centered communication. Nevertheless, the technical infrastructure is growing extremely fast, and more and more options to use rich media are being offered to the user. In light of fast growing technological changes, it is important to explore, understand and support social activities in domestic environments related to rich media use. The workshop addresses a broader scope of Beyond TV approaches and methodological challenges by evaluating these concepts in practise. By using the term Beyond TV we refer to concepts that include the usage of video or TV content with additionally options for social use and enrichments in a multiplicity of different contexts (including cross- platform away from home, ambient and playful ones).
++Topics of Interest+++ + Social Cross-platform options: Research Questions include but are not limited to: How to support social networks with integrated and cross-platform rich media approaches? How to bring exiting web- communities into domestic contexts that typically were not addressed before?
Social Ambient and Ubiquitous options: Research Questions include but are not limited to: What ambient options are possible to be connected with friends and others? In which contexts can (or should) technical support reach to be connected with others?
Social Playful options: Research Questions include but are not limited to: How to integrate gaming options into the media reception mode? What are useful gaming concepts that can stimulate community building and social exchange?
Methodological issues: Research Questions include but are not limited to: Which methods should be applied to understand everyday social practise in domestic environments? How to involve users over a longer period of time for co-design and evaluation?
++Participants+++ The goal of the workshop is to bring together persons who work intensively on the topics mentioned and to discuss further developments in that area. This includes academics/researchers, project managers, designers and HCI practitioners working in that field. The contributions should introduce new concepts and report on findings gathered by investigating the practice.
++Submissions+++ Workshop candidates should submit a position paper (2 – 4 pages) about a study or research project they are involved in. The submissions will be reviewed by the organizers and by the members of the program committee. We will select participants on the basis of the relevance, originality and novelty of their contribution. Accepted papers will be published within the EuroITV adjunct proceedings. All submissions shall follow the ACM guidelines. Submission Deadline is March 15th, 2010 (submit to jan.hess(at)uni-siegen.de)
++Agenda+++ This one-day workshop consists of two parts. At the beginning, the participants should be enabled to present their findings in the form of a short position statement (10 minutes each). Afterwards the audience will have 5 minutes to discuss each contribution. In the second part groups will be built that work together on small creative tasks around the SocialMedia topic. Each group creates a poster, which they present at the end of the workshop. In between there are breaks to get to know each other better in a more informal setting.
++Program Committee+++ · Pedro Almeida · Pablo Caesar · Maximilian Eibl · David Geerts · Volkmar Pipek · Tobias Schwartz
